Mrs. Anna Jurgens and Mrs. Walter Popp, Bennett; and Mrs. Gilbert Kardel, Walcott and Harry Schlunsen, Durant attended funeral services for George Schlunsen of Marion, S.D. Aug. 14.

George Schlunsen, son of Hans and Bertha Schlunsen, was born in Scott county Dec. 17, 1873. He was married to Annie Cook of Davenport, June 25, 1899. The first year of their married life was spent at Bennett where he worked as a butcher.

After leaving Bennett he was in the hotel business in Sunbury for several years.

In 1910 he moved to South Dakota with his family and settled on a farm near Verdon. The following year they moved to Marion, S.D. which was his home until his death.

He served as postmaster of Marion and also was state representative for Turner county at the 1933 legislature at Pierre.

In January of this year he suffered a light stroke and his health continued to fail since that time. He died Sunday, Aug. 11 at the age of 83 years, eight months and 24 days. He was a member of Bethel Reformed church from where funeral services were held on Aug. 14, with the Rev. Henry Bartell, officiating.

Surviving are three children, Leona (Mrs. John Verheof) and Victor of Marion and Lester of Omaha, Nebr.; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Anna Jurgens of Bennett. His wife preceded him in death in 1953 as did two sons, Herbert and Gilbert.
