Funeral services for Fred Werling, 83, former Tipton resident, were held Dec. 31 at Elbow Lake, Minn. Burial was at Elbow Lake. He died Dec. 27.

The son of Andrew and Magdalina Werling, he was born Dec. 29, 1874. He was married to Elizabeth Eiselstein Jan. 31, 1902, at Chester, Ohio. The couple began farming near Tipton and later moved to Kingsley and later to Riceville. In March, 1916, he and his family moved to Osakis, Minn., where they lived until 1932 when they purchased a farm near Hoffman, Minn.

He retired from farming in 1946, but continued to live on the farm, spending the winters with his daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Catherine) Peacock of Alexandria, Minn.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Floyd, White Bear Lake, Minn.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Peacock and Edna Werling, both of Alexandria; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, 3 sisters, and 5 brothers.

Attending the funeral service were Ernest Werling and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kautz, Tipton; James Kautz, Bennett; Richard Eiselstein, Olin, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lauer, Atalissa.
