Services for William S. Johnston, 85, will be held Tuesday at 12:45 in the Mechanicsville Presbyterian church and 2:45 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church in Hopkinton. Burial will be in the Hopkinton cemetery.

William S. Johnston, son of Alexander and Elizabeth Guthrie Johnston, was born on the home farm, three miles southwest of Hopkinton Jan. 19, 1872.

After farming with his father and brother, James, he established an implement business in Hopkinton and was president of the Farmer's State bank there.

In 1899 he was married to Charlotte Evelyn Sweesy of Monticello. The Johnstons farmed southwest of Hopkinton from 1923 to 1933, then moved to a farm southwest of Olin and five years later to the Secor farm west of Mechanicsville.

In 1941 they moved to Mechanicsville where they made their home until Mrs. Johnston's death in 1947. Since then he has lived with his children, spending most of the time with his son, Walter, in Mechanicsville.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Fehlman, Clemma McIlrath of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Ruth Johnston of Minneapolis; and one son, Walter, of Mechanicsville.
