Lowden - Joe Gehrls, 76, a retired farmer, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in his home here.

Mr. Gehrls farmed for many years in the Lowden and Bennett areas, retiring and moving into town in 1941. Born in Germany Sept. 26, 1875, he came to the United States with his parents at the age of four years. He married Lena Meier near Lowden Nov. 23, 1901.

Surviving: the widow, four sons, Eldie and Elmer, both of Wilton, and Raymond and Joey, both of Bennett, a daughter, Mrs. Raldo Schnack, Tipton; two brothers, Carl, Lowden, and Louie, Columbus Jct., A sister, Mrs. Henry Dircks, Columbus Junction, and six grandchildren.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gehrls home and at 2 p.m. in Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. N. S. Roberts officiated and burial was in Lowden cemetery.
