23 April 1888 - The Local Record

Mary J. Jepson wife of Samuel R. Jepson, fell asleep in Jesus on the 6th of April 1888.

The deceased was born in the state of Ohio October 27 1825 and moved and settled in this country in the year 1868. Her maiden name was Hollingsworth a sister of Richard and Lawson Hollingsworth pioneer settlers in this settlement. She was married in early life to M. Crook who was removed from her side by death, leaving her with a family of children to care for, a duty, and privilege, which she bore with true and faithful motherly love, and care. She was married to S. R. Jepson in the year 1877 in which relationship she lived faithful and kind as a wife. True to her God and his laws she laid aside one tenth of her income for the spread of his kingdom; she lived and rejoiced in his love in this life, and through his wonderful grace was enabled to bare a long and painfull sickness with more than ordinary patience, and is now reaping the reward of well done, with the church triumphant in glory.

The funeral of Mrs Mary Jepson was held in the Friends Church at the regular hour on Sunday. The service was conducted by J. Y. Hoover, assisted by Rev. Craft and John Fry. The four children of deceased were present, N. H. Crook of West Branch, Mrs. Ella Thompson and Mrs. Eliza Strahl, of Lake View, and Mrs. Alice Miller of Oasis. There were also many relatives of the stricken family and bereaved husband, present to mingle their tears of sorrow with those of the mourners, and a very large congregation of sympathizing friends filled the church to overflowing. Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Briggs and Mr. and Mrs. Swords, of West Liberty.
