1 December 1904 - West Branch Times

Eunice Hoge, daughter of William and Sarah Hoge, was born at Flushing, Ohio, on the 31st of first month, 1818. Here she grew to womanhood and in 1841 was united in marriage with Asa Holloway. To this union were born two children, Rebecca Ann and Jeptha, the former deceased. The death of her husband in 1861 left her on her own resources; she never married again and was a widow forty three years. She resided near Flushing till 1873 when she removed to Cedar county, Iowa, locating near West Branch. During the last seventeen years of her life her home was with her son-in-law, L. H. Holloway, and throughout the last three years was confined to her room on account of the infirmities of age.

She was a life long member of the Society of Friends, being born and educated in that faith. Her sphere of usefulness in the society was large; she was an earnest and active member, consistent in the maintenance of its doctrines and principles and, as long as health permitted, faithful in the attendance of its meetings. A prominent trait in her character was a firm adherence to what she believed was right. A long and useful life is ended, but we revere the memory of a kind and loving mother and grandmother, a safe counsellor and guide.
