31 July 1884 - The Local Record

We are called upon to note the demise of another pioneer. ELISHA STRATTON passed to his eternal rest early on the 28th of 7th month, 1884. For several months he has been suffering from a complication of ailments, the principal trouble being the heart.

His birth was at Salem, Ohio, on the 15th of 12th month, 1814, and he was married to Elizabeth Painter in 1839.

He came to Iowa and settled near West Branch in the spring of 1851. The scenes and incidents of those primitive days were returned with great freshness.

Six children came to bless his home, three of whom survive to comfort the now sorrowing companion and mother. For many years the deceased has been one of the leading members of the Friends' society, and by his purity of character, quiet life and devoted spirit, has endeared himself to the whole community. Through all his protracted illness, and especially during the closing days, he was full of peace and humble trust in the Savior.

An immense congregation attended the funeral services on 3rd day.
