30 June 1904 - West Branch Times

Clarissa Smith-Collins was born in Providence, R.I. May 18, 1829, and died in Turon, Kansas, May 31, 1904, aged 76 years and 12 days.

When but a child she came with her parents to Salem, Ohio, and there she grew to womanhood and was married to Thomas Collins February 24, 1848. In 1831 they moved from Ohio to Iowa and in 1886 from Iowa to Kansas, where they have since resided, except two years spent in Esterville, Iowa.

When quite young she was converted and soon after united with the United Brethren church, of which she was a faithful member.

Seven children were born to this marriage. One has gone on before. Six children, Mrs. T. M. Swingle, Rock Island, Ills.; Alonzo Collins, Estherville, Iowa; E. Collins, Tipton, Iowa; E. S. Collins and Mrs. D. K. Fortna, Turon, Kansas; Mrs. H. L. McCurdy, Stafford, Kansas, and the husband are left behind. The children are scattered, but were all present at their mother's funeral, which took place from the residence of H. L. McCurdy, Stafford, Kansas, Thursday, June 2, 1904, Rev. E. N. Cunningham, assisted by the writer, officiating. Her body now rests in peace in the beautiful cemetery near Stafford. Beautiful flowers, contributed by relatives and friends, covered the handsome casket of the faithful wife and mother.

The above was taken from the Stafford County (Kan.) Republican. Mrs. Collins will be remembered by many of the older people here, who will regret to hear of her death.
