13 November 1919 - West Branch Times

Isaac J. Gongwer was born February 9, 1856, in Columbiana county, Ohio, and passed away at his home near West Branch, Friday morning, Nov. 7, 1919.

He grew to manhood in this community. January 20, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Shreve and the new home was established on a farm near Fairfax in Linn county, Iowa. In 1898 the family removed to their present home at West Branch.

Mr. Gongwer united with the church in 1895 and has been faithful and happy in that fellowship. He also served for some time as a member of the official board. In his home he was a loving husband and a kind father. Throughout a protracted illness he was waiting and praying for that time when we shall no longer see through a glass darkly but shall see face to face and known as we are known.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, a daughter, one brother, two sisters and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held in the West Branch Methodist church, Monday morning at eleven o'clock. Rev. W. Glenn Rowley spoke comforting words from the text, "I will give you rest." Interment was in the local cemetery.
