25 November 1880 - West Branch Local Record

Died at his residence near West Branch, Cedar Co., Iowa, MR. JAMES MCCLISTER, in the 54th year of his age.

The deceased had been partially paralyzed some four years before his death, which prevented him in part from taking his accustomed exercise on his farm. He was a man who was "diligent in business", and by habits of industry and economy had acquired the means of enjoyment had his life been spared; but it was otherwise ordered, and he leaves a widow who mourns the loss of a kind, affectionate husband. He was born in the county of Antrim, Ireland, in the year 1826, and came to America while yet a young man. He resided for ten years in Pennsylvania, and afterwards removed to Iowa where he continued till his death. He united with the Presbyterian church at an early period and manifested his attachment by attending upon the ordinances of religion, and his liberality in supporting the Gospel.

During the period of his weakness and confinement he gave evidence of great patience and resignation, and he was even cheerful and his mind was clear to the last. To a friend who visited him but a day before his death, he expressed his continued faith in the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ, and anticipated an entrance into the rest that remaineth for the people of God. This is a great comfort to friends who mourn his departure, and especially to his bereaved widow who waited on him with so much care and tenderness and anticipated his every want.

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth. Yes saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them. A.P.
