3 December 1908 - West Branch Times

Charles Husband Fairall was born at Kiser's Ridge, Grantsville P.O., Garrett County, Md., July 14, 1847, and died at his home in West Branch, Iowa, Nov. 29, 1908, aged 61 years, 4 months and 15 days.

In the year 1861 he came to Iowa and spent two years in the State University at Iowa City, making his home with a brother living in that place. At the end of that time he returned again to the old home in Maryland, and in 1865 came west again with his fathers family, and soon settled on the farm in Johnson county where he resided until last October, when he came with his family to West Branch.

He was married Nov. 30, 1871, to Miss Mary J. Lanning. To this union 8 children were born: Mary, Truman, Mattie, Clara, Charles, Florence, Blanche and Delbert, all of whom are still living except Mary.

In 1889 Mr. Fairall, although not a member, became an earnest supporter of the Presbyterian church and has been identified with it as a member of the Board of Trustees since that time.

He was a man devoted to his family, thoughtful for their comfort and earnestly desiring to see his children develop into worthy men and women. Although a busy man he had a large interest in those things which were for the public good.
