26 October 1882 - West Branch Local Record

We again have had a very sudden death. On the 18th inst. Mr. Samuel W. Johnson died with apoplexy. He was taken in the morning about nine o'clock, and lived about two and one-half hours, being unconscious from the first. Mr. Johnson was born in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1838, and was forty four years and seven days old at the time of his death. He had been a very active business man all his life. He has been in the commercial business in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago and for the past few years a very active member of the Board of Trade in the latter city. In June last he returned to his home at this place, intending in the future to devote his whole time to his farm one and one-half miles north of this place. Mr. Johnson had a very cheerful disposition and brought sunshine to all with whom he came in contact, and was universally beloved by his friends and neighbors. He will be much missed by all, and his interesting family have sustained an irreparable loss.
