24 November 1927 - West Branch Times

Lillie A. Rhodes was born near Somerset, Penn. April 5, 1856, and passed away at her home Nov. 13, 1927. Her girlhood was spent in that state and she came to Iowa in 1877. She married J. C. Wright in 1878 and has resided her entire life in this locality. Had she lived until April 16, 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Wright would have celebrated their golden wedding.

She was the last member of her family and is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Grace Halderman and three sons, Bert, Eugene and Paul; also three grandsons and one granddaughter.

Mrs. Wright was one of the early school teachers of Cedar county and always took a great interest in Education and books.

She was raised and confirmed in the Reformed church and later in life united with the English Lutheran church at Iowa City where she remained a member until death.

Mrs. Wright was a true christian, loved and respected by the entire community and kept her kind interest in the entire neighbhorhood until her death.

Thus passes another of the pioneers of Cedar county, who has seen the hardships of rural life give way to the luxuries of present day civilization, and retained her early beliefs in her Christian training and the hope of eternal life, so promised.

Services were held at the late home Tuesday, Nov. 15 with Rev. Hanson of West Branch officiating. Mrs. Gerlits and Mrs. Clarke sang two appropriate selections and the body was laid to rest in the West Branch cemetery.
