27 March 1902 - West Branch Times

Ann Stratton, daughter of Josiah and Deborah Stratton, was born second month 18, 1819, at Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio. She was united in marriage with David Dean, tenth month 31, 1851, at Augusta, Carroll county, Ohio. She died third month 10, 1902, being 83 years, 1 month and 2 days old, having journeyed in this life with here beloved husband more than 52 years.

There were born to them six children, three have gone before, and three, Hannah, Josiah and Albert, with her husband, brother and sister, are left to mourn her loss.

They moved from Ohio to near West Branch, Cedar county, Iowa, in the fall of 1852. After some other changes, they settled at New Sharon, in 1865, in and near which has ever since been her home.

She was a life long member of the Friends' church, in which she served as an overseer and afterwards an elder, until by her own request, because of her failing strength in old age, she was released from the station. The church interest, in all lines of work, was hers. Her prayers, testimonies and example to her family, friends and all proved her knowledge of her personal Savior, Jesus Christ, whose life she delighted to practice and to whose grace and likeness she continued to grow. None appreciated this more than her own household.

On the last illness she felt the Lord speak to her in the words: "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live." Feeling and expressing a readiness to go, she enjoyed reading and talking of the heavenly city, but ever prayed to be kept in patience, while awaiting her departure. Lo, shortly past the midnight hour of Sabbath, with her face turned toward the sun rising, she fell asleep and was gone. --New Sharon News.
