Mary McCaleb was born in Rock Bridge county, Va., March 2, 1843, and died at West Branch, Ia., March 17, 1902, aged 59 years and 15 days. She was united in marriage with Joseph E. Welch, Dec. 19, 1865 and, with her husband, removed to the state of Iowa about seventeen years ago.

While only a child she was led to Christ and united with the Presbyterian church of her native place, and from that time to the day of her decease she was a member continuously of some branch of the Christian church. On removing to West Branch eight years ago she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of this town, of which she remained a member until called to the world above. Husband, daughter, two sisters and one brother are left to mourn their loss. These, we commend to the comfort and sustaining grace of the Heavenly Father.
