23 April 1885 - The Local Record

DIED--Of Pneumonia and brain fever at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning April 8th, 1885, HAZEL, aged 3 years and 1 day, darling and beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Thompson.

Little Hazel, whose winsome innocence had so suddenly enchanted our town, now lies in the hush of death. Taken in the vestal purity of early years the loss of her companionship is immeasurable by any standard, and while we bow our hands in sympathy with the afflicted family; we rejoice in those immortal and priceless words, "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven." The funeral took place from the M.E. church, the Rev. J. Hamerson of Wall Lake officiating. A large concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery, two miles east of town.
