The community was shocked when it was known Friday that Harold Moorhead was drowned in western Kansas. He had gone west about ten days previous to assist his uncles in their wheat harvest. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moorhead had word from him that he had reached his destination in safety. In the evening after the days work was done the men were in the habit of going swimming in a nearby lake. On Thursday evening Harold, a cousin and the hired man on the farm were in together. Harold was teaching the cousin to swim, and without warning or sound he sank and did not rise to the surface again. As soon as help could be secured the body was brought to the surface but there was no evidence of life in it. The physician said that it was very evidently that it was a case of heart failure and not of cramps.

The funeral occurred at West Branch Monday July 19, 1915. The large attendance at the church and the beautiful floral offerings manifested the esteem in which the deceased and the family are held.

Harold Alfred Moorhead, youngest son of Paul and Alice Moorhead, was born near Tipton, Iowa, November 14, 1894, and died July 15, 1915.

He was converted and joined the M. E. church at Springdale Feb. 17, 1907. He came with his parents to the neighborhood of West Branch thirteen years ago and here he grew to young manhood, respected by all who knew him.

He attended the public schools of West Branch graduating with the class of 1914. Harold was a worthy member of the class, entering into the literary, athletic and social phases of school life with the earnestness and enthusiasm which would have characterized his work later in life had he been spared. He was a consistent and ernest worker in the M.E. church at West Branch and as a member of the Good Fellowhip class of the Sabbath school he proved loyal and true hearted.

Ambitious to get a start in life he left for Kansas two weeks ago to visit his uncles and to help in the wheat harvest. Last Thursday came the sad news of his death by drowning at Alamota, Lane county, Kansas.

He leaves to mourn his loss a father, mother, two brothers and a sister, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Harold will be sadly missed in the home; the burden of life will be a little heavier for those left behind, but the end will be brighter for then shall we see him face to face.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out the family in their bereavement.

The funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 p.m. and from the M.E. church at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 19th. Rev. A. E. Lang, a former pastor, officiated, owing to the absence of Rev. W. H. Mitchell. The pallbearers were six of Harolds High school classmates--Mervin Thomas, Cecil Pilkington, Glenn Speight, Otho Yoder, Willie Anderson, Robert Gray. Interment was in the West Branch cemetery.
