4 February 1897 - West Branch Times

At 10 o'clock Tuesday evening, Feb. 2nd, Mrs. Louisa T. Stevens, wife of the pastor of the M.E. church of this place sweetly passed away. It was a joyful change to her who had for the last six weeks endured such intense suffering but which was borne with that faithful submission and patience that shines out only in the true Christian life, a life that has been a noble example and a life that closed in a triumphant victory. The funeral was held in the M.E. church at 7:30 Wednesday evening where a large congregation assembled to pay their last respects to one whom to know was only to love. The address was given by Rev. Loveland of Trinity church Cedar Rapids which was an eloquent and fitting eulogy to a worthy character. He was assisted in the services by Rev. Furniss, Rev. Hadley, Rev. Gibbens and Rev. Hoover. An abundance of beautiful flowers decorated the casket, and was conspicuous everywhere. The Masons and Woodmen each attended the obsequies in a body. At the close Rev. Stevens accompanied by his Davenport friends with their precious charge left for the east.
