24 December 1925 - West Branch Times

Only last week Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Gamble bid their friends, and Iowa, farewell and journeyed to Southern California, there, as they hoped, to spend their declining years in the land of sunshine and flowers.

They arrived at Pasadena Friday afternoon, and on Monday the message came saying that Mr. Gamble had passed away as he slept in the early hours of Monday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Gamble had spent their entire married lives on the home farm near Centerdale, where their two boys were raised, until a few years ago when they retired to Iowa City, building a beautiful new home in a pleasant residence district. Soon after his retirement, however, Mr. Gamble's health began to fail, and a serious illness a year or two ago seems to have influenced their decision to seek a milder climate.

Their son, Louis S. Gamble, and family moved to Pasadena in 1924 and Mr. and Mrs. Gamble disposed of their holdings here with the happy intentions of joining them in the west.

The other son, Earl, who has been conducting the home farm, was in the midst of preparations to move his family to Pasadena, also, and complete the family circle.

That these arrangements are thus suddenly frustrated is a painful shock to all the family friends here as well as to the immediate relatives.

Mr. Gamble was a man prominent in Masonic and community circles. He was always friendly and pleasant--what is known as a "good mixer".

To his wife and family the sincere sympathy of his home community is unreservedly extended.

Earl Gamble left Monday evening to be with his mother in her grief. The funeral will be held in Pasadena.
