Mary Holloway was born Oct. 26, 1835, in Columbiana, Ohio, and died in her home in Downey, Cedar county, Iowa, May 3, 1915, being at the time of her death 79 years, 6 months and 7 days old. In the year 1855, Nov. 4th, she was married to John Lodge. To this union eight children were born--one daughter and two sons preceded her to the Better Land, five sons, four of whom were present at the funeral, along with the husband and father, are left to mourn their loss. Clarence of Downey, Edson of Idaho, Albert of Colorado, William of Orchard, Urbrn of West Liberty, also two brothers and two sisters and thirteen grandchildren. In the year 1857, with her husband she came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Downey. At the time of her death she was one of the oldest and a charter member of the Downey Baptist church. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by the Rev. J. S. Wood, and interment was made in Downey cemetery.
