22 April 1926 - West Branch Times

A feeling of gloom spread over the community when word was received of the departure from earth of a worthy woman and dear friend, Margaret Fawcett, who quietly and peacefully passed into the Great Beyond the morning of April 13, 1926, from her temporary home in Pasadena, Cal., at the age of 83 years 2 months and 8 days.

She was the daughter of Logan and Margaret McGrew, born February 5, 1843, in Illinois City, Ill., and came with her parents to Iowa in her early womanhood. She was united in marriage to Thomas Fawcett Feb. 8, 1871, at Hickory Grove, by Friends ceremony, she having previously, by request, become a member of that society, and during the remainder of her life adhered to the faith and principles set forth by same.

She, with her husband, settled on the farm home near Centerdale, Iowa, when they lived happily for many years, frequently making trips to California, or some of the southern states, to spend winters in a more mild climate.

She was a devoted wife and a tender, loving mother.

To this union were born two sons, Logan and Irvin. Her husband preceded her in death March 31, 1915; also her son Logan passed away on May 23, 1916. The deceased is survived by her son Irvin, three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. C. C. Thompson of Pasadena, Calif., and a host of acquaintances and friends.

She was a great reader, choosing literature of a high class, morally, educationally and spiritually, reading what was elevating and uplifting to humankind. Her energy, her enthusiasm, her cheerfulness, her great will power were outstanding characteristics of her life. We shall all miss her pleasant smile and kindly greeting. To know her was to love her. She has gone from us a ripe sheaf gathered from the harvest.

She has bequeathed the memory of a beautiful life that tends to strengthen the hope in those who are left behind, that we, too, may meet our Pilot face to face, when we have crossed the bar.

Funeral services were held from the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Malissa Fawcett, Sunday afternoon, conducted according to Friends service. Interment was at Hickory Grove cemetery.
