2 October 1924 - West Branch Times

Margaret Ellen Hoover, daughter of George and Sarah Albin, was born at Lafayette, Indiana, October 19th, 1839. She passed away at her home in West Branch at noon, September 24, 1924, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 5 days.

She came to Cedar county with her parents at the age of one year, and has resided in this vicinity ever since.

On October 25, 1866, she was united in marriage with Benajah Hoover. To this union two sons were born, George C. and Vernon F. The husband preceded her in death on May 26, 1896, and the son Vernon on January 13, 1898, leaving the son, George C. Hoover and his wife, Ruth E. Hoover of West Branch, two grandchildren, Helen Margaret Yoder of West Branch and Claude L. Hoover of Fairfield, Iowa; two greatgrandchildren; three brothers, George M. Albin of Guide Rock, Neb., F. A. and S. E. Albin of Pasadena, Calif., who mourn her demise.

Mrs. Hoover's quiet retiring disposition and her beautiful character endeared her to her many friends and surrounded her with the loving devotion of her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, among whom she spent a long and useful life.

Her family were especially blessed in having her gentle and guiding presence with them while she saw and enjoyed grandchildren and greatgrandchildren in the home.

She was an earnest Christian. When a young lady she, with her sisters, united with the Methodist church at Oasis, and when the Methodist church at West Branch was being organized, they, with their mother, were among the first to transfer their membership to this charge. For a number of years she was the only surviving member of the original Class Meeting of this church. Her church and its organizations engaged her devotions throughout her life. Her busy fingers were ever employed in doing good. Only yesterday our Ladies' Aid Society finished quilting a beautiful quilt, the last of her handiwork, especially done for and donated to the society.

During her last illness, with great clearness of mind, she spoke to the loved ones around her of her happiness that she was "Going Home to be at rest with her Savior and her loved ones."

Funeral services were conducted from the home Friday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. W. C. Perdew.
