4 September 1924 - West Branch Times

Mary Hobbs, wife of Stephen H. Hobbs, was born in Czechoslovakia, March 26, 1866, and passed away at her home near West Branch, August 31, 1924. In 1874 she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm six miles east of Iowa City.

On May 29, 1888, she was united in marriage, to Stephen H. Hobbs who is left to share the loss of this loving wife and mother. To this union were born seven children--John, Mary Grace, Stephen Routley, Bertha E., Clara I., William C. and Amy Irene, who passed away Feb. 28, 1914. There is also one grandchild. John Hora, an only brother, of West Branch, Iowa, is also left to mourn her loss with many relatives and friends.

She never united with any church, but had explicit faith in the guidance of her Heavenly Father. All who knew her were aware of her great unselfishness and her earnest desire to do her utmost to please and make all those about her happy and content. Her greatest interest in life was centered in her home and family.

She had a loving, kind disposition and readily made friends with all whom she met. She is gone, but her influence will remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the home Sept. 2nd at 1:00 o'clock.
