25 December 1913 - West Branch Times

Sarah Williams Cook was born in Belmont County, Ohio, June 1, 1830. She was married to Elisha Haines, October 21, 1858. In 1865, she and her husband moved to West Branch, Iowa, where she made her home until six years ago. Her husband preceded her March 17, 1891. Since then she has made her home with her daughter. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Yetter at Cedar Rapids, December 17, 1913.

She was a birth right member of the Friends church, but united with the Methodist church with her husband soon after her marriage. She always was prominent in church circles and she and her husband helped build the first M.E. Church in West Branch. She was an affectionate wife, a loving mother and always had thoughts for others. She had a pleasant personality, and always had a cheery word for every one.

One son, I. W. Haines, of West Branch and a daughter, Mrs. C. W. Yetter, of Cedar Rapds are left to mourn her loss, besides a host of relatives and friends. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. E. B. Branson of Chicago. The funeral took place Friday afternoon from the home of her son I. W. Haines, of West Branch, Rev. A. E. Coe officiating. The interment was in the West Branch cemetery.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Chas. W. Yetter and family; Lindley Branson and wife of Cedar Rapids; Dr. Leona Branson, C. W. Thompson and wife, and Mrs. Nealia Fisher and daughter of Iowa City; and R. W. Cook of Oskaloosa.
