15 May 1913 - West Branch Times

Elizabeth Hobson, wife of Wm. Hobson of this place, died yesterday morning at near 9:30 o'clock after a brief illness, aged 70 years. Her death came very unexpectedly to her relatives and friends, and is a great shock to the community. She was a highly respected member of the Conservative Friends. The funeral will take place from the Friends Meeting House on South Second street at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. The obituary will appear next week.

Elizabeth J. Hobson, daughter of Caleb and Sarah Fowler, was born near Bartlett, Washington county, Ohio, 1st mo. 19th 1844, died 5th mo. 14th 1913, aged 69 years, 3 mo. and 25 days.

She was seventh in a family of eight children, five of whom have preceded her to the better land.

She was married to Wm. Hobson 9th mo. 11th 1876. They lived near her birthplace for 25 years or until coming to West Branch in 10th mo. 1901, before which time, two children had been laid to rest, an infant and Geo. W. aged 10 years. Her last illness was of short duration, she having been about the house the day before her death. She lived a life of devotion to her family and bore her affliction with a quietness that is seldom seen.

She leaves to mourn their loss, a brother, Lindley M. Fowler of Denver, Colo.; Achsah Mott of West Branch; a loving husband and three children, Lena Edgerton, Stephen J. Hobson and Mary L. Hobson, all of this place.

She wasa a life long and consistent member of the Society of Friends. The funeral took place on the 16th from the Conservative Friends Meeting House at West Branch, and she was laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.

Upon the dark sea's foam;
Another ransomed spirit
Has found a "Welcome Home"

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were, Joseph G. Hobson of Sioux City, Mrs. Willis Fawcett of Mt. Vernon, Robert Smith of Iowa City, Ellis Smith of West Liberty, Mary Shadle, Matilda E. Spencer and Wm. Coppock of Whittier, and Everett C. Morris of Mt. Hamill.
