Killed, at the battle before Atlanta, July 22d, 1864, SOCROTES T. SAFELY, of Company K, 11th Iowa Regiment, in the 22d year of his age; third son of James Safely, Esq., of this vicinity.

This brief record of the passing hour, numbers among its memories the death of one of our best soldiers, and one of our countries best defenders.

Another son of Mr. Safely, John G., was severely wounded in the right shoulder. He is doing well.
