Mary Falistice Preston was born at her home north of Springdale, Iowa, March 11, 1902, and died at the Mercy hospital at Iowa City, Feb. 2, 1922, being 19 years, 10 months and 9 days of age.

Mary caught a severe cold a couple of months ago from which she never recovered. On Friday morning, Feb. 2nd, she got a chill and gradually she grew worse becoming unconscious in the morning. She was soon taken to the Mercy hospital where all the best medical aid that could be had was given, but to no avail, and she died after the last rites of her faith were administered. Her father, mother and sister were with her at the time of her death.

The funeral services were held Saturday morning from St. Joseph's church at Cedar Valley. Father Cochran of Morse celebrated the mass and officiated at the grave. Interment in St. Joseph cemetery.

Six girls--Vivian Flansburg, Dorothy Branson, Twila Fox, Eliza Milnes, Marcella and Agnes Fitzpatrick, all classmates of hers acted as honorary pallbearers.

Six young men--John, Frank, Joseph, Paul, Henry and Charles Fitzpatrick, all cousins of the deceased, were pallbearers.

Mary attended school at Springdale where she was in her Junior year.

She leaves to mourn her loss her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Preston of West Branch, one brother, William Preston of West Branch; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Bujueski, of Wilton, Ia.; Mrs. Fladge Clemens of Mechanicsville, Ia. Two brothers preceded her in death, George about eight years ago and Walter just 7 months ago.

Mary was a kind hearted girl who had many friends and who when once acquainted always had a friend and was always ready to help others.
