27 November 1890 - West Branch Times

George Wilson was born in Trenton, Jefferson co., Ohio, May 22, 1832. Turning from the slender opportunities of an older and crowded state he turned his face to the young and growing Iowa arriving in Cedar county in the spring of 1853 with no capital but with energy and integrity. He chose Iowa twp for his home and soon set abut laying the foundation of that fortune which he felt lay within the grasp of honest industry and worthy purpose. In the following August he was married to Lavina Negus and together they continued the struggle till hardships and privations to comfort and competence. Three children were gathered to their arms, two of whom went early to the better land, the third, their daughter Ella (Mrs. I. J. Hamiel) remained to attend them each in their last long painful illness, the mother dying three years ago. Mr. Wilson was a man of vigorous mind, strong convictions and much patriotism. Following his country's call he enlisted in the 24th Iowa Inft., during the war of the late rebellion and was faithful to duty until discharged. As a worthy citizen, friend and neighbor he will be greatly missed. As the loving father and counselor who can measure the loss to the lonely daughter. But sorrow should be tempered with resignation when we consider the suffering body is at rest and his spirit freed from earthy fetters is mingling in the delights of life eternal.
