Esther Bruff Miles, daughter of James B. and Sarah Bruff, was born Oct. 9th, 1835, at Damascus, Ohio. She departed this life at Salem, Oregon, March 26, 1921, aged 85 years, 5 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage with Isaac N. Miles March 28th, 1877, at West Branch, Iowa, where they resided till 1884, when they took up Indian work at White's Institute, Lee county, Iowa. After coming to Oregon they lived at Salem, Scott's Mills, Crooked Finger and Newberg, where he passed away October 30th, 1899.

She remained in Newberg till Dec., 1906, when she came to Salem to make her home with her niece, Alice E. Edmondson, where she has lived ever since.

Esther B. Miles is survived by one sister, Elizabeth B. Kirk, of Salem, Oregon, and two stepdaughters, Prudence M. Crosbie of Brewster, Minn., and Abbie Edwards of Tillamook, Oregon. She was a birthright member in the Friends church and at the time of her death was a member of South Salem Meeting.
