4 January 1912 - West Branch Times

Ellen Christen Christensen was born in Horby, Denmark, Jan. 6, 1891, and departed this life, Dec. 29, 1911, at her home east of West Branch, Iowa, aged 20 years, 11 months and 24 days, after an illness of almost a year.

At the age of eleven years she came with her parents to America, locating near West Branch. Here Ellen grew to womanhood. She was of a quiet and gentle disposition and loved by all who knew her.

She was untied in marriage Oct. 20, 1909, to Jens C. Sorensen at Springdale. To them was born one child, little Constance, aged 15 months. She leaves to mourn her early death, beside the husband and daughter, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Christensen, of Springdale; two brothers, Carl Christensen near West Branch and Ancher Christensen of Oasis; and three sisters, Mrs. Anton Miller near Rochester, Mrs. Ludwig Johnson of West Branch and Miss Mary Christensen, who has been in loving attendance to her sister for the past six months.

Mrs. Sorensen went to Colorado last summer, where she spent about three months in a vain quest for health, then returned to her home, where she patiently waited for the call to come where she would be
"Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Asleep on His gentle breast.
There by His love o'er shadowed,
Sweetly her soul shall rest."

All that loving hands could do, could not keep her with us longer. She was reared in the Lutheran faith, uniting with the church in her early years and was always a true and faithful follower of her Saviour of, whom she talked much as the end drew near. She was always a patient sufferer and happy in the thought of that better land, where she told her family she would be waiting to welcome them. Almost her last breath was spent in repeating the 23d Psalm. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I Shall Not Want."

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bondo of Davenport, at the Danish church in West Branch, Jan. 2, 1912, at 1:00 p.m. Interment was made in the West Branch cemetery. The attendance was large and the floral offerings were many and beautiful showing the love of her many friends, who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
