25 July 1912 - West Branch Times

David Morrow Dixon was born in Butler county, Pennsylvania, August 7th, 1829.

He was married to Nancy Douglass April 13th, 1854, and moved to Iowa the following October, where he has since continuously resided, in Johnson and Cedar counties. Mrs. Dixon died at West Branch Oct. 19th, 1895.

The deceased leaves two daughters, Mrs. J. L. Stevenson of Atlantic, and Mrs. Fred Speight of Oasis; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

In young manhood the deceased united with the Middlesex Presbyterian church near his home in Pennsylvania, and after coming to Iowa he became one of the founders of the Fairview church in Johnson county. After his removal to West Branch he became a member and an elder in the Presbyterian church at this place, where his faithful service and wise counsel will be greatly missed.

Mr. Dixon was a man who took a deep interest in matters of public welfare, even in his advanced age, and after coming to West Branch served the town as councilman and as mayor. He took an active interest in all moral reforms and was especially enthusiastic in the promotion of temperance. He was much concerned in the growth and development of West Branch, was a strong advocate of good citizenship, and his life has been eventful in the history of our town and community. In his latter years he was much devoted to the cultivation of flowers and few excelled him in the production of many fine varieties, which he delighted to give to his friends.

He bore his last illness with much patience and after many days of suffering was called home on the afternoon of Juy 17, 1912, at the ripe old age of 82 years, 11 months and 10 days.
