25 February 1909 - West Branch Times

On Feb. 14th, there occurred at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Macomber of Hygiene, Col., the death of their beloved daughter, Sarah B. Macomber. Miss Sarah was born at Bremen, Indiana, Jan. 17, 1887, and came with her parents to Iowa, and West Branch, when she was only five years old. Thus her girlhood was spent among the people of this community. In 1904 because of failing health, and with the desire and hope of being benefitted by the mountain atmosphere, she was taken to Colorado, since which time her home has been in that state.

Sarah was a sweet child and a lovely young lady, endearing herself to all who knew her. So bright, cheerful, affectionate, was she that her smile and quiet modest deportment won the good will of all her acquaintances, and when her sickness compelled her to go from us in search of health she took the sincere prayers of her friends for recovery.

When only a child of nine years of age she became a Christian and on the profession of her own faith united with the Presbyterian church of West Branch. Neither did she ever regret the step she then took, for her trust in, and love for, Christ, were the greatest comforts of her heart. Always buoyant and hopeful to the last that she would recover from her sickness, she was ever planning and speaking about the work she might do for Jesus. But the Savior had another purpose. He wanted her to serve among the company of the redeemed in his own presence. So he called her to the heavenly home. Her departure was in peace and with the comforting assurance of the gospel--"I would not have you to be ignorant concerning these that are asleep: for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."
