5 February 1931 - West Branch Times

In recording the death of Mrs. Mabel Parry, we glance back along the nearly 53 years of her life, and note the chief points of interest which have contributed to make that life--the personality so well known among us.

All her life she has been a resident of West Branch and vicinity. She was born March 13, 1878, her parents being Wesley and Christiania Wertzbaugher.

Her education was received in the West Branch public school, graduating from the high school in 1896.

She was married to Eli Parry March 1, 1899, and two children were born, John L. of West Branch and Pauline Claire Wirtz of Wellman, Iowa. Mr. Parry died in 1908.

Mrs. Parry has suffered from physical infirmities for many years, and knew better than most people the limitations due to sickness, and those who knew her best have been surprised at the good cheer and optimistic attitude with which she faced her limited life.

Many years ago she united in membership with the Methodist church of West Branch and was a charter member of the W.F.M.S., to which society she gave of the strength which was hers.

There is left to mourn her loss beside her two children, her parents, who are over 90 years of age; two brothers, John W. of West Branch; Elmer T. of Lake, Ore; three sisters, Loretta A. Thompson of Iowa City; Iola and Belle at home, and one grandson. Verily "He giveth His beloved sleep."

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon by Dr. W. Glenn Rowley of Cedar Falls, assisted by the Rev. H. D. Green. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
