The funeral of Thomas B. Pidd, a resident of Downey, who died at his home on Friday, July 7, of heart failure, was held from the Baptist church on Sunday at 3 o'clock and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

Thomas B. Pidd was born of Scotch-English parentage at Whitby, Ontario, February 3, 1845, and died at his home at Downey, Iowa, July 7, 1911, aged sixty-six years, five months and four days. In the spring of 1869, he came to Cedar county, Iowa, in which county he continued to reside until the time of his death.

He was united in marriage on December 25, 1872, to Miss Ella Cornwall, also of Cedar county. To this union was born three children, the two oldest, both sons, died in infancy, the third, a daughter, Stella Elizabeth, is now Mrs. E. E. Rorick of Iowa City. He is also survived by his wife, three brothers, Robert of Marlette Mich., Layton of London, Ontario, and John of Saginaw, Mich., and one sister Annie residing in England, besides nephews and nieces. One sister, Mary, and one brother, George, preceded him in death. John Pidd, a nephew, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was the only one of the deceased relatives other than those of his immediate family, who was able to attend the funeral.

Mr. Pidd learned the carpenter trade when but a boy, and was engaged at the trade until a little over thirty years ago, when he became a farmer. At that time he moved onto the farm west of Downey where he resided until last January when he removed to Downey.

For fifteen years, he was a trustee of Springdale township and a member of the Board of Health which positions he was forced to resign the past spring on account of failing health.

At the time of his death, Mr. Pidd was a member of Wapsinonoc Lodge No. 381 A.F.& A.M. of West Branch.

The funeral services were held from the Baptist church at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, conducted by Rev. John Wood, pastor of the Methodist church. The interment which took place in the Downey cemetery was in charge of the Masonic fraternity of West Branch.
