19 January 1911 - West Branch Times

Lydia Elliott Eaton, daughter of John and Rachel Elliott, ws born July 21, 1823, near St. Clairsville, Ohio. She was the last of her father's family. Her parents were among the earliest settlers in Ohio, coming there from Maryland, at the beginning of the nineteenth century.

The deceased grew to womanhood in the place of her birth. Her parents were members of the Friends Church. June 3rd, 1845, she was united in marriage to Aaron Eaton, who was from the same community. They made their home there till 1866 then came direct to Iowa, lived one year near West Liberty and then on a farm near West Branch till 1891. Since that year they have lived in the home in West Branch where death came at 5 a.m. Jan. 10, 1911.

There were 6 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Eaton, three of these having died in infancy. The husband, one daughter, Mrs. Louisa Branson of West Branch, and two sons, J. W. Eaton and H. C. Eaton, both of Chanute, Kansas, still survive the loved one.

Mrs. Eaton was a devoted Christian. Communion with her heavenly father was of chief importance to her. Her devotion in everyday life will be a sweet memory in the lives of members of the immediate family and the grandchildren.

The married life of Mr. and Mrs. Eaton exceeds 65 years. This period seems long but not long enough where true love exists and a host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved husband and all the other relatives.

THe funeral service was held at the home, Thursday at 2 p.m., conducted by E. A. Lang of the M. E. church.
