17 May 1906 - The Clarence Sun

Mary Ann Claney was born March 10th, 1828, near Millersburg, Holmes county, Ohio. On Jan. 19, 1877, she was united in marriage to Mr. George Close of Millersburg. Soon after the death of her husband in 1885, she came to Iowa to be near her relatives, and has made her home in Clarence since.

She was kind and helpful to others and as a mother to some of her nephews and nieces. For a number of years she has been afflicted with deafness, which somewhat circumscribed her social life.

In her youth she united with the United Presbyterian congregation of Millersburg, Ohio.

She leaves to mourn their loss three brothers and two sisters: David Claney of Ft. Morgan, Colo., James Claney of Clarence, Robt. Claney of Auine Kan., Mrs. Jane Pyers of Haigler, Neb., and Mrs. Andrew Nicoll of Tarkio, Mo.

Mrs. Close died on Wednesday, May 9th, 1906, at 8 o'clock a.m. of cerebral hemorrhage, aged 78 years.

The funeral was held at her late home last Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McConnell of Stanwood, assisted by Revs. Locke and Oglivie. Interment followed at the Clarence cemetery.
