Henry Hecht a Resident of County For Sixty Years, Dies Wednesday

Henry Hecht one of the earliest of the pioneer settlers of Cedar county died at his home in this city last Wednesday morning following an illness of long duration.

Henry Hecht was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania June 21, 1833. He came with his parents to Cedar county in 1854, the family home being made on a farm in Springfield township. April 8, 1856 he was married to Miss Catherine Lichtenwalter. She died Oct. 31, 1863 and of the three children born to them two are deceased. The eldest, Ida is now living at Clarence.

Following his marriage his father gave him eighty acres of land adjoining the home place which he improved and where he made his home for many years.

On May 17, 1864, he was married to Miss Sarah Frances Denson, and to this union four children were born, Mrs. D. L. Diehl of Tipton, Mrs. W. P. Ross of Davenport, Mrs. F. B. Cobb of Tipton and Ralph Hecht, all of whom survive him with the exception of Ralph.

Mr. Hecht followed farming until 1888 when he retired from active work and moved to Tipton.
