4 November 1897 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED On Oct. 22d at his home in Salt Lake City, James R. Hall. Mr. Hall, who usually went by the name of Richard Hall, was the only son of Joshua Hall, formerly of this county. The deceased came to Tipton with his parents when a small boy in 1855, and lived either here or on his father's farm four miles east of Tipton until he married and moved away a few years ago, and was well and favorably known to many of the residents of this county.

After leaving Cedar county he lived awhile in southeastern Kansas, and then in the city of Des Moines, but the winters of Iowa were too rigorous for him and in order to find a milder climate he went six or eight years ago to Salt Lake City, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.

He was married to Miss Eliza Monk, also of Cedar county, and to them was born four children, all of whom, together with their mother, survive him.

Mr. Hall was a most exemplary and upright man; he was quiet, unostentatious, very industrious and of an amiable, pleasant disposition, as all will bear witness who knew him in his boyhood life and early manhood, passed in this county.

His death was caused by a complication of troubles from which he had been suffering for about one year.
