Mrs. Bertha Kroeger, a resident of Scott and Cedar counties since 1881, died at 5:20 p.m., Monday at her home in Durant, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Kroeger was born in February, 1859, in Germany, and received her education in the schools there. She came to America, direct to Scott county, in 1881, and on Feb. 1, 1884, she was married to Henry Kroeger at Davenport. The couple engaged in farming in Hickory Grove township for 10 years. Later, they farmed in Cleona township, northeast of Durant. In 1917, they retired and moved to Durant. Her husband preceded her in death on March 14, 1924. Mrs. Kroeger was a member of the Lutheran church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alfred Mumm, of R.R. Stockton, and Mrs. Leonard Hamann of R.R. Wilton Junction, Ia; four sons, Albert and Emil of R.R., Walcott, Rudolph at home, and Theodore Kroeger of R. R., Stockton; two brothers, Adolph Arp of R.R., Dixon, Ia., and Henry Arp of White Horse, Canada, and 18 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the home with services at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Durant chapel. Burial will be in the Durant cemetery.
