28 January 1875 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED At his residence in Tipton, on Saturday evening, January 23rd, 1875, MR. SOLOMON KNOTT, aged eighty years and one day.

The deceased was born in old Bedford county, Pennsylvania, January 22, 1795. In 1817 he was united in marriage to Miss Permelia McCauley, and the next year removed with his family to Indiana, and 1836 brought him to Iowa where he at once selected as his home the handsome location a half mile west of Tipton which has now for nearly forty years been known far and near as the "Knott place." And so another, and one of the very earliest pioneers of Cedar has gone. For a number of years heavily laden with the infirmities of age, and for the last year entirely broken down, death has finally interfered to remove him to the land where the passing years bring with them no added burdens. The wife of his youth survives him after fifty seven years of married life--her eightieth birthday occurring the day after her husband's death, she being forty eight hours his junior.
