8 April 1869 - The Tipton Advertiser

MRS TIRSAM LYLE, consort of John C. Lyle, Esq., departed this life March 7th, after a lingering illness of the dropsy; aged 30 years and 8 months. Her health had been feeble for some two or three years past, but especially during the past nine months was she a severe sufferer. Yet she bore all her afflictions with remarkable patience, fortitude, and Christian resignation. She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Tipton and cherished a good hope of her acceptance with God, through the merits and mediation of the Lord Jesus Christ. She said to her pastor one day, that if it were not for this good hope through Jesus she would be miserable indeed. And again, alluding to her afflictions, "It is all right. The Lord will do what is best. I desire to leave myself in his hands." When a friend congratulated her upon having such a new and comfortable home, she replied--"I hope soon to have a better house"--a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Mrs. Lyle was a devoted wife; a warm friend, and an affectionate mother. She was esteemed by all who knew her. And while she left a large family of relatives and friends to mourn her early departure, it is blessed consolation that they do not mourn as those who have no hope. May the bereaved husband and children all be prepared to meet her in heaven. D.L.H.
