15 October 1863 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED on Tuesday morning, October 6th, 1863, Mrs. CLARISSA, wife of John C. Lyle, in the 43d year of her age.

In the death of this lovely and truly Christian woman, her family and friends have sustained a loss not to be repaired in this world. She possessed in an eminent degree those traits of character which won for her many friends, and commanded the highest respect from all her neighbors and acquaintances. Her gentle ways, affectionate nature, and exemplary deportment endeared her to all who knew her. Being of a quiet and retiring disposition, her piety shone rather in the faithful discharge of domestic duties, so far as her feeble health would allow, and the hallowed influence of a devoted wife and mother, than in a more public sphere. The trials and afflictions of life, to which she was no stranger, she bore patiently, and in a spirit of submission to his will who worketh all things well. Her death was like her life. In prospect of her approaching dissolution, she was peaceful and happy. Placid, loving, and full of faith she passed away, and we believe she "sleeps in Jesus," and that her redeemed spirit rests in the paradise of God. By her sudden death, the Church of Christ is deprived of a consistent member, and her afflicted family are called to mourn the untimely departure of an honored head, a good mother, a warm hearted sister, and a devoted and affectional wife. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." R.
