OBITUARY

After a long illness a kind soul passed quietly into the shadows when Mrs. Minnie Pieper left a frail body weakened by illness through the long months, she entered realms where pain and sickness are unknown. She who held on to life with such fervor and enjoyment answered the summons to a life more sublime, when on Thursday evening, February 12, at 5:15 the patient sufferer was called home. She had attained the age of seventy-two years and ten months.

She was born near Wilton, Iowa, April 15, 1869, daughter of James and Almira Jennings. She was one of a family of nine children, six of whom are deceased. One sister, Mrs. Eunice Carey of Atalissa, Iowa and two brothers, Frank Jennings of West Liberty and Arthur of Tipton, survive her.

Having received her education at Wilton and Iowa City she began teaching school at an early age and taught for about twelve years. She was married to Charles Pieper at West Liberty on March 20, 1905. Their first home was on a farm near Wilton where they lived for five years.

Later they moved to a farm home near Springdale where they lived until 1934 when they moved to West Branch. Three children came into the home, Helen Elsie Dice who recently preceded her in death; Bernice Meyer of Kankakee, Ill. and Charles Howard of Chicago, Ill. These together with the faithful companion who so graciously shared with her the storm and sunshine of success or failure through the years, are left to feel deeply the heavy hand of sorrow in these afflictions.

She was formerly a member of the Christian church, later affiliating with the Friends church at Springdale. She had a keen mind and an interest in a wide range of subjects, a student of rare ability, she was for many years a valued member of the Springdale Self Culture club. She gave unstintingly to public welfare serving as treasurer of the Red Cross in her community in a most efficient manner for nearly twenty years. She continued her faithful interest in these things until the last. Thus she slipped away gently out of this life but leaves a memory of loving kindness that will always remain. To those loved ones who mourn on this occasion the whole community extends its deepest sympathy.

Funeral services were held at the Springdale Friends church, Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. Services were conducted by the pastors, Taylor and Irma Guthrie. Interment was at Sharon cemetery near Wilton, Iowa.

The pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Pieper and included Lonnie Walton, Walter and George Kieser of Wilton, and Merle, Forrest and Herbert Jennings of Tipton.
