Ernest O. Knick was born December 20, 1877, in Collierstown, Rockbridge County, Virginia, and died June 1, 1942 at his home in Graham township, the son of Peter Knick and Sarah Reynolds Knick.

Coming to Iowa in 1900 he spent several years in the vicinity of West Branch, after moving to the farm where he has since resided. On February 22, 1912, he was married to Jesse E. Cochran.

He leaves besides his wife, one sister, and three brothers, Mrs. Nettie Entsminger of Clifton Forge, Va., J. W. Knick of Norfolk, Va., C. M. Knick of Xenta, Ohio, A. P. Knick of Columbus, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

His father, mother and three sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist Church at Collierstown, Va.; the Masonic Lodge at West Branch, Iowa; the Iowa Consistory at Cedar Rapids, the Old Fellows at Iowa City and the Kasha Temple at Davenport.

He had always found his greatest enjoyment in visiting and associating with his friends, sharing his pleasures with others.

Funeral services were held at the Mettovern Funeral Home in Iowa City Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. L. P. Gable of West Branch conducting the services, followed by the impressive Masonic rites. Mrs. Charles Thompson sang two of his favorite songs. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Carry Me Back to Old Virginia."

His wife, not being able to go, T. A. Moore of West Branch was asked to accompany the body to Virginia where funeral services were also held from the Presbyterian church in Collierstown on Friday afternoon June 5.

In 1932, he and his wife, accompanied by two friends, spent some time in the east and at that time he selected a lot near where his family were buried, and here in this chosen spot at the foot of the mountain will be his final resting place.
