Atalissa Man is Killed When Struck By Car
TIPTON, Iowa -- Gilbert Popp, 66, of rural Atalissa was killed late Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a car while walking across old Iowa I, eight miles southeast of here.
According to the Cedar County Sheriff's office, Popp was struck by a car driven by Mrs. LaPerche Peasley, of Tipton.
Popp was taken to University Hospitals, Iowa City, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The body was taken to the Sheets and Sons Funeral Home here where services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation is after 7:30 p.m. today.
Mr. Popp was born near Bennett. He married Meta Wehde at Memphis, Mo., in 1941.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Popp is survived by his wife; sons, Andrew, Iowa City, and Leland, Lubbock, Tex.; daughters, Mrs. John Hays, Lubbock, Tex., and Mrs. Harry Pursley, Tipton; brothers, Edward, Durant, Arnold, Winner, S.D., and Walter, Bennett; sisters, Mrs. Mabel Groth, Bennett, and Mrs. Ferdinand Goettsch, Bennett.
