10 April 1902 - The Clarence Sun

Clifford LeRoy Kent, son of Charles and Jane Kent, was born at the old family home near Oxford Mills, Iowa, August 20h, 1889, and died at the same place April 4th, 1902, being 12 years, 7 months and 14 days of age.

He was first stricken with the measles, which were immediately followed by lung fever.

He bravely fought the disease for over two weeks, showing the greatest of patience and submission, but finally succumbed to heart failure. Although his demise was not wholly unexpected, yet the end came suddenly.

Clifford was possessed of a lovable disposition and consequently was a great favorite with all his little associates and will be greatly missed from their circle and especially from the Sabbath school of which he was a faithful attendant when possible for him to be present.

He is the first of a family of six children to pass to the spirit world.

He leaves to mourn their sad loss, which is his eternal gain, a father and mother, two brothers, three sisters, an aged grandfather and other relatives, beside a host of friends.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. R. Wesley Mack from the Dayton Valley Wes. Methodist church. Music by a male quartette from Massillon and Oxford Mills. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The high esteem in which he was held was attested by the very large concourse of friends in attendance at the funeral.

His little weary body was laid to rest in the beautiful Dayton Valley cemetery, to await the general resurrection, while his spirit has flown to "that Better Country".

Thus the buds are plucked from the gardens of earth and transplanted in the heavenly garden, there to bloom throughout the ages of eternity, and "make glad the city of our God." The grief stricken family have the tenderest sympathies of the entire community in this their sad hour of affliction. We commend them to the God of all grace.
