Stephen Sprague one of the early settlers of Massillon township, died of old age, in Green county last week, in his eighty-sixth year, and was brought back to his old home for burial. Mr. Sprague settled in Cedar county forty-nine years ago, on the farm on which Ernest Schleuter now lives, six miles east of Clarence. His first house was a log cabin built by himself.

Stephen Sprague was born in Noble county, Ohio, Oct. 9, 1815, and came to Iowa in 1832. In 1881 he removed to Jefferson, Green county, where he resided till he died last week Monday, (April 1). The funeral was held at Jefferson on Wednesday and the remains brought to Lowden and then taken to Massillon for burial on Thursday. Mrs. Sprague died in August, 1890, before the family removed to Green County. Seven sons and two daughters are now living, viz: William, Cozad, Neb.; A. A., Jefferson, Iowa; James, Lowden; Lewis, Cozad, Neb.; Amos, Scranton, Iowa; S. L., Cozad, Neb.; D.W., Fort Crook, Neb.; Neb.; Mrs. Eveline Stevens, Paola, Kas.; Mrs. Hattie Wright, Fonda, Iowa. A. A., Lewis and Amos came with the remains and spent several days hereabout calling on old friends.
