18 April 1895 - The Tipton Advertiser

Casper S. Filson was born Dec. 27th, 1825, in Bedford county, Pa. He was the third child in a family of ten children, eight daughters and two sons. His one brother and six of his sisters are living. He was married in 1850 to Mandy Byerly. Five daughters and one son were born to them, of which the son and four daughters are still living.

He removed with his family from Pa. to Iowa in 1857, settling three miles south of Tipton, and living there until about the year 1861, when he removed to Tipton. In 1864 he went to the war, remaining until its close. He then returned to Tipton where he resided until his death, which took place at his home at eight o'clock on Sunday morning, April 14th, 1895.

He was a good husband, a kind, indulgent father, an obliging neighbor. He leaves, besides a large circle of relatives, a host of friends in the community where the greater part of his life was spent, who mourn his loss. The funeral was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the residence, the services being conducted by Rev. Hartsough, of the U.B. church, the interment being in the Masonic cemetery.
