4 November 1897 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED. FERGUSON--At his home in this city on Oct. 27, Jas. D. Ferguson, aged 39 years, 11 months and 13 days.

The death of Jas. D. Ferguson was not unexpected although it came finally from a sickness unconnected with the disease from which he had long suffered.

Early last winter weakness of lungs developed to such an extent that he was warned that he must give up work on the farm. Several of the winter months were spent in the Southern states in the hope that in a milder climate he could win back health and strength, but without avail. He returned in the spring a very sick man, but with summer he seemed to grow stronger and was able to drive out. About two weeks before his death he was seized with typhoid fever and his strength was not sufficient to battle with the disease.

Mr. Ferguson was a good type of man and citizen, honest and upright in all his dealings. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Red Oak and at the time of his death was an elder in that body. He was a good husband and father, perfectly unselfish in his devotion to his children. His only regret at death was his thought of them.

The funeral occurred Friday, Oct. 29th at the Red Oak church, and the interment at Red Oak cemetery.
