7 March 1935 - The Tipton Advertiser

Newkirk (Okla.) Herald-Journal: Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon for Miss Rachel Catherine Duncan, 95, who died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her sister, Mrs. A. J. Beach of the Middleton community. The services were at the Hill funeral home with Rev. D. D. Swinney in charge and burial was made in the Mercer cemetery in Kansas. Miss Duncan was born Jan. 26, 1840, and moved from Topeka, Kan. to the home of her sister here about a year ago. Mrs. Beach and the deceased are aunts of the Duncan Sisters who have become famous as radio singers.

The item above, referring to the passing of Miss Duncan, was sent by J. W. Hanlon, of Winfield, Kansas, one of the oldest subscribers on the Tipton Advertiser subscription list. He recalls that Miss Duncan lived for years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Duncan at West Bethel, about four miles west of Tipton. One brother, James Duncan, lives in Tipton, another brother Henderson Duncan, lives at Rochester. Mrs. A. J. Beach, at whose home Miss Duncan died, was known as Agatha Duncan before her marriage to Mr. Beach.

Relatives here declare she was born in 1836 in Richland county, Ohio, and came to Cedar county in '64. She was nearing the 100 mark.
